Arrive Athens, Greece, morning of 4 September, travel
by connecting flight to Iraklion, Crete.

Day 1, Saturday, 4 September

Mid or late morning arrival in Iraklion, Crete.
Travel to the village of Kritsa. Stop for lunch on the way.
Arrive in Kritsa to settle in your rooms. Early evening exploration
of the village. Traditional village dinner at the inn.
Overnight: Kritsa

Day 2, Sunday, 5 September

Morning walk through vineyards, olive groves and small family gardens
around Kritsa to the archaeological site of Lato, an Iron Age town.
Stop along the way for a visit to the Tzanakis family small holdings.
 
Guided tour of Lato archaeological site. Picnic lunch.
Afternoon visit to the city of Aghios
Nikolaos, walking tour
of spice and herb markets. Free time for
shopping or swimming.
Fresh fish dinner at seaside restaurant. 

Overnight: Kritsa

Day 3, Monday, 6 September

Mid morning departure to high mountains above Kritsa and the
agricultural settlement of Katharo (the word means “clean” in Greek.)
Hike through fields and orchards and enjoy a traditional farmers lunch.
Meet with several local residents to discuss herbs and cheese-making.
Return to Kritsa for several hours on your own
or join us for a cooking lesson
at the inn.
Evening gathering at Patricia and Robinette’s house.
Walk to dinner in village restaurant.
Overnight: Kritsa

Day 4, Tuesday, 7 September

Depart Kritsa for the high mountain Plateau of Lasithi. Farm tour and meeting
with local cooks and growers. Tasting of locally produced wines.
Traditional feast featuring the season’s best ingredients from Lasithi.
Overnight: Lasithi Plateau

Day 5, Wednesday, 8 September

Depart Lasithi for western Crete. Arrive village of Milia in late afternoon.
Walk through the orchards to enjoy views as the sun sets. Dinner at Milia.
Overnight: Milia

Day 6, Thursday, 9 September

Free day at Milia. Enjoy a day at leisure: resting, reading, exploring.
Option to join seasonal farm activities.
Overnight: Milia

Day 7, Friday, 10 September

Guided tour of Milia’s organic farm, animals and orchards.
Hike into the mountains around Milia to learn local plants.
Afternoon cooking seminar: traditional cuisine of Western Crete.
Overnight: Milia

Day 8, Saturday, 11 September

Morning departure from Milia to Hania.
Arrive Hania in time to visit
Saturday morning farmer’s market,
Central Market and other shops in the old city.

Afternoon free for shopping and exploring Hania.
Farewell dinner.
Overnight: Hania

Day 9, Sunday April 25

Morning departure to Hania airport and flights home.
