Patricia Kyritsi Howell, Registered Herbalist (AHG), is a Greek
American medical herbalist and naturalist whose family of origin
lives on an island 50 miles north of Crete. She is author of
Medicinal Plants of the Southern Appalachians and has been a
professional member of the American Herbalists Guild since 1995.
Patricia owns BotanoLogos, a school for herbal studies in the
mountains of north Georgia, and teaches Secrets of the
Mediterranean Diet: the Traditional Cuisine of Crete for the
Continuing Education Program at Emory University in Atlanta,
Georgia.
Robinette Kennedy, Ph.D., Clinical Anthropologist, has
lived and worked on Crete off and on since 1975. She spent
more than a year living in a rural mountain village on Crete
where she documented the powerful role of women's
friendships in a traditional culture. (Gender and Power in
Rural Greece, Jill Dubisch, ed., Princeton, 1986) Her book in
progress presents her original research about a ritual
practice depicted in the sacred art of prehistoric Crete that
awakens shamanic consciousness.
Yiorgos Spiradakis, Licensed Archaeological Guide, is a native
of Crete and one of the island's
most respected archaeological
guides. In addition to his vast
knowledge of Minoan artifacts
and culture,Yiorgos' keen
observations of the natural
world offer a seasoned view of
the powerful historical and
contemporary relationships
between plants and people on
Crete. He is also a farmer who
produces organic olive oil.
